At a small meadow, they dropped their backpacks. Butterflies drifted past their faces, rose around their knees, and scattered ahead of them into more flowers.
Wind jumped the narrow stream. Sophie took off her hiking boots and socks and splashed straight through it. It wasn't deep.
Everywhere there were flowers. Everywhere there were amber wings.
“Wind, should we stay here? The path goes farther into the meadow, but I like it here.”
Wind turned, balancing on a flat stone, and looked along the stream.
“This place is great. We can make camp and stay the night.”
He pointed to a flat patch of grass above the water.
Sophie wiggled her toes in the cool stream.
“Let's.”
