Ocean found him late that afternoon.

Wind saw the silhouette and jumped up so quickly that sand flew from his knees.

Ocean's canoe came around the rocks.

“There you are.”

“Did you see Muara?”

“At the landing. In your boat.”

“She took it.”

“Yes.”

“She knew I was here.”

Ocean brought his canoe into the shallow water and stepped out.

“Yes,” he said again. “She said she got tired of waiting for you. And that you wanted to go to Butterfly Valley anyway, so she didn't want to spoil your day by making you come home.”

He picked up the blue backpack. Wind reached for it, but Ocean already had it over his shoulder.

“Come on.”
