Muara was new to the island. Her family had come from Los Angeles to visit friends, and they were staying in Hawaii for the whole summer.

Her hair fell in long, dark waves that shone when she turned her head. Wind thought it was even prettier than Sophie's.

He hadn't told Sophie this.

Muara wanted to go beyond the Pineapple Waterway.

She wanted to find islands with no names, sleep under the stars, and bring home something wonderful.

Wind wanted all those things too. He wanted to know more about her.

She spent a whole afternoon on the landing, making plans. Muara drew an island in the sand with her toe. Put a treasure cave behind it. And told Wind all about how well she could handle an outrigger.

“We'd be good at this,” she said.

Wind thought so too.
