Wind liked painting. Sophie liked it too. And they always signed their art. Always. Wind could write his own name since he was two.

She showed the people Wind's paintings — and yes, anyone could see it. The letters on the little wooden ring on a bird from another island and the letters on the colorful pictures were made by the very same hand.

The lost boy was eight. And his paintings were colorful.

So this time, it wasn't one canoe. It was many. Outriggers from three islands, trimarans, colorful sails covering the ocean.

And Sophie thought about which way to point them. They'd asked where the green birds with the little bamboo rings had been seen. And they knew the ways of the Pineapple Waterway.

Watch and think.

In her mind's eye, she could almost see the little green bird flying out ahead of the sails, showing everyone the way.
