The kite battle was supposed to begin after lunch. Sophie was already hungry and frustrated that her kite wouldn’t fly.
She decided to go home and sneak some biscuits. While she was reaching into the tin, the weather came on the radio.
The morning breeze would ease before noon. Light winds through the afternoon. Calm and clear weather tonight and tomorrow, a period of high pressure…
Sophie stopped chewing.
Through the window, she could see the clock above the boat shed. She could also see Wind testing the new tail on his kite.
She took another biscuit.
Then she went outside.
“Do you want to catch the wind?”
Wind looked up.
“What for?”
“So we wouldn’t lose the kite battle, of course. My kite can’t fly. I need more time. And you can test the new tail.”
“How would you catch the wind?”
Sophie pointed toward the shed.
